Ebony Spleenwort
Sunday, September 11, 2022, 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm
North Mountain Rd, Sunderland MA
Explore the west side of Mt. Toby in Sunderland, mostly following a woods road with a few side trips for more ferns. This area of woods, rock and wetlands is rich in ferns. We found 26 different ferns in July, but some may be dried up now because of the drought. There will still be a lot to see!
Ferns include Crested, Clinton's, Broad Beech, Maidenhair, Ostrich, Walking Fern, and Ebony & Maidenhair Spleenworts.
Moderate level hike, some uneven ground.
Directions: Meet at the intersection of Claybrook Rd & North Mountain Rd in Sunderland (accessible from Park Rd or Rt 47 & North Silver St). Parking is along sides of road. Please stay off neighbor's lawns.
We recommend dressing for possible poison ivy, & insects including ticks.
