Pioneer Valley Fern Society

Ferns at Norcross -- CANCELLED

Saturday, June 22, 2024, 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm
Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary, Wales MA

The Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing landscape of varied habitats and beautiful flowers and ferns. At one time they boasted having 50 different fern species on their grounds. The grounds range from created habitats such as an Atlantic White Cedar Swamp, Wet Meadow, and Lime Cobble, as well as meadows, woodlands, and naturalized gardens. Ferns range from the common and uncommon native NE ferns such as the Spleenworts; Oak & Beech Ferns; Wood Ferns including Goldies, Mountain & Braun's Holly; Bulblets & Fragile Ferns; Maidenhairs; and Woodsias. They also have unusual species and varieties of Maidenhair, Oak, and Lady ferns, such as shown in this photo.

We will try to see a good representation of ferns on the site, but may not get to them all! This is an opportunity to experience the property and hopefully interest you to return to explore some more on your own.

There is free parking. They close at 4 PM, and are not open Sundays and Mondays, which is why we are changing our routine and meeting on Saturday June 22nd.

There are directions on their website. Their GPS address is 30 Peck Rd, Wales MA 01081.
