Fern Walk 4H Forest

Royal Fern

Sunday, May 11, 12:30 pm until 3:00 pm
Leverett

Come enjoy the many ferns & fiddleheads along the trails of the 4H Forest in Leverett. We will see about 20 different ferns, as well as many lovely spring wildflowers. The photo is a Royal Fern fiddlehead, with the fertle pinnae on top and sterile ones below it.

Be prepared for possible bugs, poison ivy and mud (if there has been recent rain).

The first half hour, from 12:30-1:00 pm will be an introduction to fern identification, for those new to ferns or who would like refresher with the new season. The public walk will begin at 1PM.

Directions: From Leverett Town Hall & Post Office turn left at the split in the road (away from the pond) and bear left onto Shutesbury Road. The 4H Forest parking lot is about 0.5 miles from the Town Hall. Look for a dirt drive up slope on your right. If you pass the large beaver ponds on either side of the road, you just passed the parking lot.

Free & open to the public. Rain cancels.
