Mt Toby Waterfall Fern Hike

Come explore the forest trails at Mt Toby around Roaring Brook Falls and the railroad tracks. On these moist, east-facing slopes we'll find some 20 ferns, including less common ones such as Goldie's, bulbet (photo), walking, Appalachian popylpody, and narrow-leaved glade fern.

Moderate level hike, with some wet, uneven ground and slopes along narrow trails and off trail through the woods.

Directions: Meet at the small parking area on west side of Rt.63 in Leverett immediately south of Box # 438, 6 miles north of the traffic light in North Amherst center, and 1/10 mile south of the intersection of Montague Rd. to Leverett center. Very limited parking, so car pool if you can, or park off the side of Montague Rd, for easy walk across the road to the starting area.
