April 23rd 1 PM Fiddlehead walk, Mt. Toby Waterfall, Leverett (& Sunderland) MA
Look for & identify new ferns in their early stages. See fiddlehead photos on website. Meet at parking lot at Box 438 Long Plain Rd (Rt 63) Leverett, (Ashram) 6 miles north of N. Amherst center.
May 14th 2 PM Mother’s Day Walk at Chard Pond, Falls Rd, Sunderland MA
Explore the ledges & waterfalls for spring wildflowers and early ferns. Short walk will have wet & slippery sections. Meet at Chard Pond on Falls Rd, one mile north of intersection wth Rt. 47.
June 11th. 1 PM Mt. Toby Tower Road, Sunderland MA
Approximately 2 mile easy walk on main road. Meet at trail head parking area on Reservation Rd. Brief introduction followed by trails walk identifying over a dozen common ferns.
July 2nd 1 PM Mt. Toby Waterfall, Leverett (& Sunderland) MA
Mesic forest & fern walk. Over a dozen common and some less common ferns (including glade, walking, Goldie’s, bulblet). Meet at parking lot at Box 438 Long Plain Rd (Rt 63) Leverett (next to Ashram), 6 miles north of N. Amherst center.
July 16th 11-3 Fern Identification Workshop, Distant Hill Gardens, Walpole NH
Register at www.distanthillgardens.org . Indoor lab session with PowerPoint followed by field session, walking trails to see & identify 20+ ferns. Beautiful gardens, natural areas & outdoor sculptures. 507 March Hill Rd, Walpole NH 03608
August 6th TBD Mt. Equinox, Manchester VT
2-3 hour hike on beautiful Mt. Equinox. We’ll expect to find 18 common and less common ferns (including bulblet, maidenhair, mountain woodfern, wall rue, & cliffbrake). Time & meeting place to be determined.
