Ferns of Highland Park

Two fern walk options on Sunday June 19th

This Sunday June 19th we are offering a new Fern Walk location! Highland Park in Greenfield MA.

There will be 2 options.

2-3 PM is an easy walk along a wetland next to Highland Pond. We will identify a dozen common ferns of our area. Good for beginners or those who just want to have a short easy walk.

3-4 PM is a more challenging hike up steeper trails with uneven terrain, to see less common ferns mostly in the rocky area of the park. The second hike is only recommended for people able to do this kind of hiking. We will focus on 5 less common ferns, but still note about 17 other common ones as we pass them! The Ebony Spleenworts (pictured above) are really lovely!

People are invited to attend one or both, as they are interested and able. Meet at 2 or 3 PM at the parking lot below Highland Pond. See Poster attached to Calendar on PVFS website for details.

Directions: At intersection of Main & High Streets in Greenfield, turn onto Crescent St, & then on to Highland Ave. Stay left on to Highland Park Rd, past tennis courts, then left onto Parkway St to parking lot below Highland Pond. Meet in parking lot for start of both walks.
